Wikipedia
Red giant
A red giant is a luminous giant star of low or intermediate mass (roughly 0.3–8 solar masses (M☉)) in a late phase of stellar evolution. The outer atmosphere is inflated and tenuous, making the radius large and the surface temperature around 5,000 K (4,700 °C; 8,500 °F) or lower. The appearance of the red giant is from yellow-white to reddish-orange, including the spectral types K and M, sometimes G, but also class S stars and most carbon stars.

red giant
A red giant is a large, aging star in the latter stages of stellar evolution that has exhausted the supply of hydrogen in its core and has begun to expand and cool, thereby giving it a reddish appearance. The temperature of its outer envelope is relatively low, which gives it a reddish color, while its size is relatively large, often several hundred times larger than the sun. The luminosity of a red giant is also high, as they are very bright stars.

Red giant
A red giant is a luminous giant star of low or intermediate mass in a late phase of stellar evolution. The outer atmosphere is inflated and tenuous, making the radius immense and the surface temperature low, somewhere from 5,000 K and lower. The appearance of the red giant is from yellow-orange to red, including the spectral types K and M, but also class S stars and most carbon stars. The most common red giants are the so-called red-giant-branch stars whose shells are still fusing hydrogen into helium in a shell surrounding a degenerate helium core. Other red giants are: the red clump stars in the cool half of the horizontal branch, fusing helium into carbon in their cores via the triple-alpha process; and the asymptotic-giant-branch stars burning a helium shell outside a degenerate carbon–oxygen core, and sometimes also a hydrogen shell closer to the surface of the star. The nearest red giant is Gamma Crucis, 88 light years away, but the orange giant Arcturus is described by some as a red giant and it is 36 light years away.

Examples of red giant in a Sentence
This evidence confirms that planets orbiting at a large enough distance can continue to exist after their star's death, given that this system is an analog to our own solar system, it suggests that Jupiter and Saturn might survive the Sun's red giant phase, when it runs out of nuclear fuel and self-destructs.
